Back in, maybe 2006 or so, I was a member of the AC Moore forums. We would have crochet challenges every now and then. This challenge was to take an existing shell stitch pattern and just make it into a scarf. So I did, but of course never wrote down the pattern (I'll try to remember one of these days!) The yarn I used was a beautiful 100% ultra silky bamboo "Sensations" brand yarn from Joann Fabrics, which has since been discontinued (isn't that always the case?!)

If you've ever worked with fuzzy yarn or eyelash yarn before, you know it can be challenging. What I like to do is take 1 strand of normal yarn and 1 strand of wild eyelash yarn, and hold them together while I crochet. This way, you can actually see your stitches. To make my scarf, it's just a chain of 21, followed by subsequent rows of 20 single crochet stitches. Length is about 5.5 feet. You can watch my Basic Beginner Crochet video on YouTube to help with chains and single crochet stitches.

Pom pom (or is it pompom?) yarn is a lot of fun. However it too can be quite challenging. The key is to do your crochet work in between the pom poms. Try to ignore that the pom poms are there and work with the strand in between. Make a chain using the strands in between the pom poms of about 6-8, depending upon their size. Then just go back and forth with single crochet stitches - or even slip stitches if your strand in between is too short!
