How cute is this for the littlest one in your life? You can make this crocheted baby top hat in green for St. Patrick's Day, or brown for a Thanksgiving pilgrim, or black for a vintage top hat. And if you are a fan of "Alice in Wonderland" this would make a great Mad Hatter hat! Be sure to check out my YouTube Tutorial Video on how to make this in the next section!

Size: 3 month old to 2 year old. Alterations available below for other sizes as well (older child, adult)

Materials:
170 yards of worsted weight yarn in green; 25 yards in black. Sample used 1 ball Stitch Studio by Nicole Studio Basic in green and 1 ball in black. Crochet hook Size G (4 or 4.25 mm). Scissors. Yarn needle. Felt (optional) with either matching needle/thread or hot glue gun.

Written Pattern - Be sure to follow along in the video!
With green yarn, make a Magic Ring. CH 1.
Rnd 1: 12 HDC in ring.
Rnd 2: 2 HDC around = 24.
Rnd 3: [2 HDC, 1 HDC] around = 36.
Rnd 4: [2 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC] around = 48.
Rnd 5: [2 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC] around = 60. Measure to ensure 1" less than head circumference. See video and *notes for alterations.
Rnds 6-7: 1 HDC around.
Rnd 8: In back bump, 1 HDC around.
Rnds 9-15: 1 HDC around.
Rnds 16-19: Switch to black yarn. 1 HDC around.
Rnd 20: Switch to green yarn. 1 HDC around.
Rnd 21: In front loops only, [2 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC] around. (If your count is off, don't worry - either skip or end with an extra 1 HDC if needed).
Rnds 22-24: 1 HDC around.
Cut, weave in ends. With yellow felt, cut out a square and sew or hot glue onto hat.

*Notes. If you need to increase the size after Round 5 to fit a larger head (child, adult), continue in pattern with rounds until you reach the correct size, which is 1 inch less than the head circumference, ie:
Round 5a: [2 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC] around.
Round 5b: [2 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC] around.
Round 5c: [2 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 HDC] around.
And so forth. Stop when measurement is correct, and then continue on with Rnd 6+ above.
