How cute is this? Perfect for Spring, Summer, or anytime of the year. Also great with a prom dress - or even a wedding dress!

Check out the written pattern below, and most especially, view my YouTube video tutorial for how to crochet this lovely cropped sweater - bolero shrug!

Materials:
Red Heart Anne Geddes Baby Yarn - [3] weight (DK) - 340 yds (310 m). Sample color: Taffy. XS/SM = 1 ball / M/L = 2 balls / XL/1X+ = 3 balls
Size H - 5 mm crochet hook (optional G - 4 or 4.25 mm hook for scalloped edging)
Yarn needle
Scissors

Finished Measurements:
34" width by 12" length excluding scalloped edging. 36" x 14" with scallops.

Gauge:
This pattern is customizable from both a length and width perspective.
17 stitches in (DC, CH) pattern = 4" 9 rows high = 4".

Instructions:
Slipknot. CH an odd # of stitches. Sample used a semi-loose starting CH of 145, which measured 40" across. Note: this width will shorten and eventually stabilize around Rows 2-3 to around 34".
Row 1: 1 DC in 5th CH from hook *CH 1. SK 1 CH and do 1 DC in next CH* RPT between * * across row.
Row 2: CH 4 and turn work. 1 DC in adjacent CH SP, 1 CH, SK 1 DC. *1 DC in next CH SP, 1 CH, SK 1 DC.* RPT * * across row. Measure your work to ensure it is of desired width. Sample is 34" across.
Rows 3+: RPT Row 2 until desired height. Sample has a total of 27 rows, with a height of (without scalloped edging) 12"
Fold rectangle in half so that the width is still 34" across, but the height is now. With a safety pin or other temporary fastener, pin 2" in from both of the outer edges. Try on the shrug. Measure and pin along the edge, until just under your arm pits. This will be how far inward you need to sew the sleeves. Sew both sleeves. Cut and weave in all ends, or proceed with an optional edging.
Optional edging:
Open up the shrug and connect your yarn with a SC in an inconspicuous spot, in the space between the two DCs, such as one of the sleeve's seams (near the armpit area).
RND 1: *CH 3. SC in next SP.* RPT between * * around. SLST to first SC. Try to end with an EVEN # of CH-3 loops around, since the next RND will require an even # of spaces.
RND 2: SLST into adjacent SP. CH 1. SC in same SP. * 5 TR in next SP. SC in next SP. * RPT between * * around. Instead of last SC, SLST to first SC. Cut and weave in all ends.
