Crochet Wave Stitch
The crochet wave stitch is a pretty simple stitch pattern. It produces a neat wavy and 3-dimensional (3D) look to the fabric. I like using this stitch pattern in blankets, scarves, shawls, and handbags. It would also make a nice stitch for a garment such as a sweater, cardigan, and more.
Basic Crochet Stitches
To do this stitch pattern you will need to know some basic stitches in crochet. You will need to know how to chain, slip stitch, and make a half double crochet. The nice thing is the stitches are made in groups of 5, so it’s really easy to remember. Sometimes slip stitches will be over slip stitches. And half double crochet stitches over half double crochet stitches. And other times it will be just the opposite – slip stitches will be over half double crochet stitches. Stitches are made in the BLO – back loops only – to create the 3D wave effect.
Yarn Used in this Project
I have used this yarn in other stitch samples before, and the first question I get is, “What kind of yarn is that?” Actually, I am not sure. Because stitch samples are small squares that I make for videos, I don’t use my good yarn. I usually use odds and ends from other projects. Or I use the clearance yarn from the bargain bin at my local craft store. And that’s what this yarn is. Small skeins of no-name yarn that were on sale. They might have been mill ends. It reminds me a bit of the Caron Pantone Yarn, but I can’t say for sure exactly what brand it really is.
