Punch Needle for Beginners
Punch needle is a vintage fiber art technique that creates embroidery stitches on one side and rug hook like loops on the other. It works up fast and easy!
How to Do Punch Needle
Punch Needle Embroidery is a vintage fiber art technique that uses cloth, a hoop or frame, a punch needle tool, and fiber such as yarn, thread, or embroidery floss.
With yarn, monk’s cloth is usually used as the fabric, while weavers cloth is used with embroidery floss or thread.
The tool is a pretty simple design. It consists of a body that you will hold along with a metal part on top which pushes through the cloth. You might need a long, folded wire to fish the yarn through the tool
You’ll need a hoop or frame. The traditional wooden embroidery hoops don’t always work as well as some of the “grip” type of embroidery hoops.
And you’ll need yarn or thread. The size of your tool as well as the cloth will determine the type of fiber you can use. By the way, check out my tutorial on yarn and thread HERE!
I generally recommend getting a kit for the first few times. The optimal size tool, yarn, cloth, etc. are all included. Plus most come with really good instructions.
