How to Crochet a Mitered Square Cloth for the Kitchen and Bath
This crochet mitered square cloth can be used as a dishcloth in the kitchen and a washcloth in the bath. It works up fast and easy!
Mitered Squares
Getting a nice crisp corner on anything can be challenging. If you’ve ever worked with bindings on quilt, you know this to be true. Or you might have tried to get your wood moldings perfect around corners. Luckily, crochet mitered squares are much easier to make than most other things in the handcraft world.
In this crochet pattern, we’ll first start off with a chain loop, even though we’re going to work in rows. Row 1 is a setup row, where we establish which stitches form the sides and which ones form the corners.
Row 2 and beyond are worked the same way. You’ll crochet half double crochet stitches until right before a stitch marker. Then you’ll crochet a series of stitches in the bottom point. Finally, you’ll crochet half double crochet stitches again to complete the row.
I chose to change colors every 2 rows for my striped cloth. My other cloth consists of blocks of colors. I made a total of 14 rows in both of my samples to achieve a 10″ square. Feel free to make your square larger or smaller by adding or subtracting rows.
The intention of this cloth is to be used in the kitchen as a dishcloth or as a washcloth in the bath. Feel free to crochet two of these and place them back to back together, then connect them along the edges. This will make a double-thick pad that you can use for many other uses in the kitchen!
