How to Crochet a Granny Square Tutorial
Granny Square Crochet Tutorial – How to Make Super Easy Granny Squares plus Tips on Changing Colors for a Blanket and Scarf.
About Granny Square Crochet Tutorial
I love to crochet granny squares! There’s only one thing that makes them a bit tricky to make – the color changes. And changing colors itself isn’t difficult. However weaving in all of those ends afterwards makes like a bit complicated.
To avoid all of that frustration, I like to crochet my ends in as I go. This avoids needing to sew in all of those ends. However, the key to doing this correctly is creating a solid slipknot (and slip stitch) right from the start.
Plus, fastening off the ends with an extra chain-1 and ensuring the knot it secure. If you keep those two steps in mind, weaving in ends as you go becomes super easy. Plus they won’t unravel in the wash, which is very important!
Yarn and Crochet Hook for Squares
For my sample I’m using scrap yarn from other crochet patterns. The yarn is worsted weight 100% acrylic. Plus I’m using a 5 mm H size crochet hook. Granny squares can be made with any size yarn or thread along with its corresponding crochet hook.
I’m changing colors on every round. This pattern becomes very simple when you do that. And since I show tips and tricks to crocheting over the ends as you go, changing colors should be fun to do – not frustrating!
Please see my step-by-step tutorial video for this pattern, noting the ways I start each round as well as finish each round.
