How to Crochet Cables Using the Easy Method of Surface Crochet
Crochet cables are easy to make using modified single crochet stitches along with surface crochet techniques.
About This Pattern
I love crochet cables (and knitted ones too). I like making them the easy way, which consists of doing a modified single crochet stitch along with the techniques of surface crochet.
Traditionally we make crochet cables with front and back post stitches. This produces a lovely design, however, it does pose some challenges with trying to remember which stitch is next. With surface crochet, the crochet hook “draws” stitches along the work. Cables, especially intricate ones like Celtic knots, are very easy to make using this method.
Here are some helpful tips. With this method, make a series of modified single crochet stitches into the work. Always keep the working yarn along the back of the work. Draw up loops from in between stitches. I like to use regular single crochet stitches as my base only because it is easier to see where to put the crochet hook. However, feel free to use other crochet stitches including Tunisian ones
For my sample I’m using worsted weight yarn and a size J 6 mm crochet hook. Feel free to use other weights of yarn and hook sizes as well. As always I have a step-by-step tutorial video to help out with these cables. Enjoy! Donna Wolfe from Naztazia
