Crochet Birthday Cake and Toilet Paper Cover
A birthday cake is a cute gift for someone on his or her birthday. It also can serve as a toilet paper cover. This cake is quick to make and is sure to bring about a smile to your face!
Today is my birthday! January 27, that is. I wanted to make something cute for my birthday and share it with you. I thought it’d be fun to use it as a base for this birthday cake, especially with the whole toilet paper thing of the past 2 years.
This pattern is relatively simple, although it does use more than just basic crochet stitches. You’ll find single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, and even a bobble stitch in this one.
Construction and Other Info
The body of the cake is made with half double crochet stitches in the round. The candle is made with just single crochet stitches worked in spiral rounds. And the flame is made with just about every stitch mentioned above. How come the smallest item is always the most complicated?
The fun part of this toilet paper cover is the icing – and that is made with a bobble stitch. It looks just like piped icing on a real cake!
It’s up to you with regards to color scheme. I happen to like a lot of color. Perhaps you can choose to use a different color for every round on the main cake section. Then use a neutral off-white color for the icing. You can of course use a solid color for the cake, and then maybe a multicolor yarn for the icing. There are a lot of fun choices with this pattern!
Finally, I’m using small amounts of worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn. Plus I’m using a G hook. This works nicely for a 4.75″ diameter roll of toilet paper.
