How to Crochet the Cross Over Stitch
This cross over stitch pattern is one of the nicest textured crochet stitches. It works up fast and is easy to make.
Easy Textured Stitches
The cross over stitch, sometimes called the slanted stitch, is one of the easier textured crochet stitches. Essentially, there is a row of single crochet stitches, followed by a row of double crochet stitches. There is one double crochet that becomes a long double crochet and crosses over the other double crochet stitches. This is what produces the nice effect.
Luckily it’s a very easy-to-remember pattern, so it works great for a scarf or a blanket. I think it also looks nice for a shawl or cardigan or other fashion accessory. With a lining, it would also look good for a handbag.
More Information
I’m using a worsted weight yarn that I found in the mill ends section of my now closed local AC Moore store. The crochet hook is a size H 5 mm. Feel free to substitute with any weight or fiber content of yarn. I usually look on the label for the suggested crochet hook size.
And if I can’t find one I just go with my gut. For example, if I’m working with the yarn and it gets splitty – I probably need a larger crochet hook. If I’m working with the yarn and my stitches are way too loose or big, then I probably need a smaller hook.
