How to Crochet an Easy Winter Hat
Here’s an easy winter hat you can crochet using the crunch stitch and a single crochet ribbing. It’s a nice and warm hat that works great especially in the cooler weather. It can work great for a child, teen, woman, or man. The pom pom is optional, but I think it’s a cute addition.
The hat is constructed in rows, with the ribbing at one end of the row and the textured stitches at the other end of the row. The piece is then seamed together and the brim is folded up. The top of the hat is gathered or cinched, and then the pom pom is attached.
Stitches used in this pattern include the chain (CH), single crochet (SC), half double crochet (HDC), and slip stitch (SLST). The crochet hook used is a size H 5 mm.
I’ve always been fond of the crunch stitch pattern used in this hat. It almost reminds me of the seed stitch in knitting.
The yarn is Red Heart’s Heat Wave yarn, which is sunlight activated and can keep you up to 12 degrees warmer. The sample hat uses the color Sandy Shores, but there are quite a number of other wonderful colors you can choose.
