How to Crochet Houndstooth Stitch Pattern
The crochet houndstooth stitch pattern resembles the classic black and white fabric design. Check out the pattern and tutorial video!
About the Crochet Houndstooth Stitch Pattern
The crochet houndstooth stitch pattern creates a nice design in the work and uses only 3 basic crochet stitches. You’ll use the chain, single crochet, and double crochet stitches. Plus the pattern is easy to remember, as it’s just single crochet, followed by a double crochet on every row.
What makes this pattern fun (and maybe just a smidge tricky to do) is the color changes. I have yet to meet a knitter or crocheter who actually likes to have a bunch of ends to weave in at the end due to color changes. The good news is with this pattern, the color changes don’t require all that cutting and weaving in of ends for every row! We carry our work throughout the entire pattern. And not just carry up the yarn along the sides. We crochet over our unused end the entire time so that we can easily change colors every row, as opposed to every two rows.
I’m using worsted weight yarn, 100% acrylic, and a size H 5 mm crochet hook for my sample. But feel free to use whatever yarn and hook size you wish.
As always I have a step-by-step tutorial video to help you with both the color changes as well as with the stitches. I’ll show you exactly how to change colors and where to place the yarn at both the beginning and ending of each row so that your work is nice and neat.
