How to Crochet Kitchen Ring Pad

This crochet kitchen ring pad works great in the kitchen. If made with heat resistant yarn, you can use it as a hot pad, potholder, or trivet. I happen to like it as a decoration too.

As always if you need assistance I have a step-by-step tutorial video.

Materials for the Kitchen Ring Pad

Every time I design a kitchen accessory, I try to be careful with recommending the yarn to use for it. Everyone has had different experiences with certain fibers for use in the kitchen.

For example, 100% cotton has always been the most common choice for making hot pads or potholders for decades. However some newer cotton out there (but not all) is pre-treated. What that means is it’s not always a good choice for using around anything that might have some heat generating from it. But some is perfectly fine and can be used.

100% acrylic will definitely melt at a certain high temperature. I’ve purposely melted acrylic yarn in many fiber art demonstrations. Yet other people have successfully used 100% acrylic. My Mom has had a ton of acrylic hot pads and pot holders in her kitchen for years.

Because my husband was a volunteer firefighter, he always used 100% wool garments under his fire suit. 100% wool (the non-treated kind) has very, very good heat-resistance properties.

As always, it is your choice on what materials to use depending upon the application of your kitchen pad. If you are using it simply as a decoration like I do, anything goes!

Other Materials Used

Once you choose the yarn, all you need is a G crochet hook and a yarn needle to make this crochet kitchen ring pad. Did I mention this is a great project for using up leftover yarn?
