How to Crochet a Mini Stocking Sock
This crochet mini stocking is cute and works as an ornament, a pin, and a magnet for your refrigerator. These little socks are fast and easy to make!
About this Pattern
Crochet stockings and socks always look so “complicated” to make. However this mini stocking is extremely fast and easy to make, especially if you know how to crochet in the round.
The stocking is worked starting from the toe. This consists of your normal single crochet stitches made in the round for 2 rows. Then a few more rows forms the foot section.
The hook then switches over to the heel section. Three rows of back and forth single crochet form the heel. The hook is then reentered into the main color yarn and worked over both the heel as well as the foot section. A topping of a single crochet border and voila – easy stocking.
I highly recommend watching the step-by-step tutorial video, as it makes a lot of sense once you see it done.

Materials Used
This is a great project for scrap yarn. Scrap yarn projects are important, as it’s good to clean out the stash every now and then. I used less than 15 yards for each stocking. It was about 12 yards to be precise, but I like to overestimate just a bit so that one doesn’t end up playing “yarn chicken” and hoping they have enough yarn to finish the project!
Red Heart Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn is perfect for this project. It has enough oomph to support the shape of the stocking, yet it’s thin enough to create a cute and small stocking.
I’m using a size G 4 mm crochet hook. The nice thing about this pattern and yarn is you can make an even smaller stocking by dropping down to an F 3.75 mm crochet hook. Or you can make it a wee bit larger by going up to an H 5 mm crochet hook. I can even see an I or J hook being perfectly acceptable as well.
Ideas for this Stocking
I like to add a yarn strand and use this on my Christmas tree as a mini stocking ornament. Sometimes I’ll sew a pin to the back of it and wear it on a sweater.
Another option is to get strips of magnets and hot glue one onto the back to use on your refrigerator, door, whiteboard, etc. Granted I have a stainless steel finish refrigerator, but my back door is metal, so that’s where you’ll find all my magnets and notes.
They also look like baby socks. You can use them as party favors for a baby shower.
