Crochet Stocking Tutorial
You can learn to make a crochet stocking in this tutorial pattern and video. Plus you can make your Christmas stocking in any color you wish. Choose a traditional red, white, and green combination. Or make an icy blue one. Or make one in colors for your favorite sports team!
Christmas Stocking Pattern
This is probably a more intermediate pattern. Certainly beginners can do this pattern. However it would help if you already have some experience with at least making a granny square.
This stocking is constructed first by making 13 granny squares. Then the squares are laid out in a special way for connecting. Finally, sew them together and attach an optional cuff and loop.
Stitches and Yarn Used
The stitches used in this video include the magic ring, single crochet, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. If you need assistance with the basics of crochet, please see my beginner crochet tutorial videos.
Each granny square is made using 4 rounds. I like to change colors for every round, but you can use 2 or 3 colors if you wish instead. You can even use one color too!
With all the color changes, there will inevitably be a good amount of yarn ends to weave in. I happen to have a video showing several ways of tying off all those yarn ends.
For the yarn, I’m using a 100% acrylic worsted weight. I really like the one called Mainstays from Walmart. They seem to have stocked quite a nice selection of new yarn and colors, at least in my local store. I’m using a traditional red, white, and green for my sample. However feel free to use shades of blue for the icy cool look. Or if someone likes a certain sports team, make them a stocking as a gift in their favorite colors!
