How to Crochet the Tilted Square Stitch Pattern

The tilted square stitch is comprised of double crochet that form a slanted square in between a set of stitches. If you are looking for something a little different than plain double crochet, this stitch creates a neat effect!

The effect is created by crocheting 3 double crochet stitches with slanted stitches in between. This works great for a blanket, scarf, shawl, and more.

Stitches Used to Create the Tilted Square Effect

The stitches used for the tilted square stitch pattern include the chain, single crochet, and double crochet. That’s pretty much it! It’s a relatively simple pattern if you are already familiar with the basics of crochet.

After you make a double crochet in between 3 double crochet stitches, you’ll be using the stitch as a base to create the slanted stitches. Be sure to watch the tutorial video to see how relatively simple it is to make.

Yarn Choices

For my sample, I’m using worsted weight yarn and a size H 5 mm crochet hook. As with all stitches, feel free to use whatever size yarn you wish, and its corresponding crochet hook. You can usually find the suggested crochet hook size on the yarn label.

As you may have seen in the video, I’m changing colors every two rows. I think this creates a nice design. Feel free to use the same yarn color for the entire pattern, or, change colors as desired.
