Crochet Toilet Paper Hat Cover
A crochet toilet paper hat cover is a great way to hide your toilet paper! And it looks like just a crochet hat! It seems toilet paper has become quite valuable these days. Even more so than gold. And since we’re probably all home right now, how about we decorate our toilet paper with a crochet hat!
Back in the early 1980s, I made my first crochet toilet paper hat cover for my mother’s bathroom. It was pink. Then she had me make another one for her blue bathroom. Oh the wonderful memories these bring back! My mom still has them (I think) somewhere in the house.
Now my mom used to place a faux flower in the top part of the crochet hat, which you can do as well to decorate it a bit more. I chose to use two colors of yarn and a button to decorate it a bit. For what it’s worth, these crochet toilet paper hat covers were mainly used back then to hide a spare roll of toilet paper, instead of just putting the TP out in the open. I sure think they have a new purpose these days!
Stitches used in this toilet paper hat cover
I designed this toilet paper hat cover to be relatively simple to crochet. You only need to know how to make a chain (CH), a slip stitch (SLST), and a double crochet (DC). It helps if you also know how to work crochet stitches in the round. But in case you don’t, I have a step-by-step how to tutorial video on how to make this.
Because toilet paper comes in several different sizes, you might need to add a few more rounds than I show in the pattern to cover yours. Or you might need to use a larger crochet hook, to allow your stitches to be larger. Larger stitches will make a larger hat cover.
Yarn used in the crochet hat
You can pretty much use any type of fiber in this project. You can use cotton, wool, acrylic, bamboo, etc. I chose to use Red Heart Super Saver because it’s what I have in my stash right now. This is a 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn that comes in so many pretty colors to match any room in your house.
