Tips and Tricks for Crocheting in the Round
Crocheting in the round is easy if you know these tips and tricks for working with double crochet, amigurumi, and certain crochet stitches!
About This Tutorial
Crocheting in the round, as you know, creates objects that are generally round, but sometimes can be other shapes too, like squares, ovals, octagons, and so forth. If you can crochet in back and forth rows, you can crochet in the round.
However, there are some tips and tricks for working in the round. The center of circles can be a bit challenging. There is always the Magic Ring, also known as the Magic Circle, which I have a tutorial for here. But, some yarn doesn’t always cooperate nicely with that technique. So another option is to do a chain 1 method, which I cover in this video.
Also, when working with double crochet hats, you’ll often find an “ugly” line and space where you finish your last double crochet stitch, and then slip stitch over to the top of the chain 3. In this video I show a way to help avoid that.
With amigurumi, you will need to do a sc2tog (single crochet 2 together) decrease stitch at some point. The traditional way of making that stitch usually creates holes in your work, which aren’t fun because the stuffing inside can come through. The invisible decrease stitch helps fix this issue, which I show in the video.
And finally, some stitches like the crochet star stitch, actually look better when you turn your work. Did you know that you can turn your work when crocheting in the round? I’ll show you some tips and tricks to doing so in this video.
As always I hope this tutorial and video helps you. Enjoy! Donna Wolfe from Naztazia.
