How to Crochet the Crossed Treble Stitch

The crossed treble stitch is one of my favorite crochet stitch patterns for when I need a lacy effect. This works great for a scarf, shawl, skirt, tunic, and more. It even works nice for curtains and a lightweight blanket!

If you are wondering how the crossed treble stitch is formed – it is a lot simpler than it looks. You’ll first start off with a treble crochet, but don’t finish it. Then you’ll move over a few stitches and take off loops in groups of 2. Next is a chain 2. Finally, a double crochet in the center of the crossed treble finishes the stitch. The video below shows exactly how it is done!

Stitches Used

This stitch pattern uses the basic crochet stitches. These include the chain (CH), the double crochet (DC), and the treble crochet (TR). Feel free to check out my beginner crochet video if you need help with the basics!

What yarn to choose

Here is one stitch pattern that works with just about every weight of crochet thread or yarn. I have used this in fine size 10 crochet thread. This is what I like using for a skirt or lace curtains.

I’ve also done this in super bulky weight yarn. And this type of yarn works great in a pillow (with a lining underneath). In the video, I used a worsted weight yarn (various samples of Red Heart Super Saver) and a size H 5 mm crochet hook.

As a reminder when choosing the yarn, look on the label. Usually you will find a recommended hook size near the gauge information. That size hook should work well in most projects, including this with this stitch.
