How to Crochet a Solomon’s Knot Scarf using the Love Knot Stitch
The Crochet Solomon’s Knot Scarf is a lovely, lightweight scarf made with the love knot stitch for any time of the year.
I showed how to crochet the Solomon’s Knot stitch in one of my first crochet tutorial videos from 2009. You can view it here if you are curious to see what I looked like back then! It’s been 12 years since that video, and the entire time I have been meaning to make something using that stitch. And this is how my crochet Solomon’s Knot Scarf pattern came about.
There are other names for the crochet Solomon’s Knot stitch. You might also hear it referred to as the Love Knot, the Lover’s Knot, the Knot Stitch, and more. I have also seen “Solomon” spelled several different ways too through the years. It is a fun, fast, and simple stitch to make whatever name you want to call it.
Materials Used
I’m using a DK weight yarn for this pattern. Worsted weight yarn also works nicely too. The primary goal with the knot stitch is to see the knots. With this in mind, you will want to choose a fiber content that is a bit stiffer. Drapey, soft yarn will collapse and not effectively show the knots. With this in mind, I tend to favor cotton, cotton blends, acrylic, and wool for the knot stitch. These fibers have a bit of “oomph” to them and hold their shape nicely.
In the video, I show a little trick to keeping those loops consistent. If you wrap the yarn around your finger while making each knot, that finger will become the template. Every stitch will remain the same size (or just about the same). This technique produces a cleaner look in your finished work.
All in all, I think you will like this pattern. After watching the video, I’m sure you will want to take out your hook and some yarn and try wrapping the loops around your finger. Keep that tip in mind for any future projects with the crochet Solomon’s Knot!
