How to Crochet the Tunisian Cross Over Stitch
The Tunisian cross over stitch is a nice textured pattern for a scarf, shawl, and blanket. It works up fast and easy and is good for beginners.
Tunisian Crochet Stitches
Tunisian crochet stitches, sometimes known as Afghan crochet stitches, are a lot of fun to work with. Traditional crochet is great, but sometimes you want to do something a bit different. Tunisian crochet can produce stitches similar to both regular crochet as well as knitting. The fabric created is nice and soft and drapes beautifully.

Hooks and Yarn
I like to use a small Tunisian hook for a scarf and shawl. However if you are making a larger blanket or other item, you might want to consider using an extendible Tunisian hook. This type of hook looks like a traditional crochet hook on one end, while the other end has a long fishing-wire type of extension. This holds the stitches as you create them.
For the yarn, you can use any weight or fiber type. I tend to favor worsted weight yarn for videos, because it’s easy to see. However feel free to change things up a bit and use a thinner yarn like a DK weight yarn. Or use a bulky weight or chunky weight yarn instead. The yarn label should provide a suggested hook size. If not, I generally favor a 4.0 mm or 4.25 mm G hook with DK weight yarn. Worsted weight yarn gets a 5.0 mm H hook. And chunky or bulky weight yarn I jump up to a J or K hook.
