About This Book
I received a copy of this book to review by David & Charles, a well-known publishing company of many types of books, including those of the fiber arts. The first thing that caught my eye was the gorgeous cover photo! Look at all of those amazing crocheted motifs! I think the donuts really stood out, maybe because I was hungry at the time.
The author, Brenda K. B. Anderson is from Minnesota, where according to the book, is “sweater weather nine months of the year.” Living in Northeastern Pennsylvania myself, I can completely appreciate this!
You might have seen my short-form and longer review videos for this book. I chose the “Meow” chart pattern of the cute little black cat to make my cell phone case. I made mine in fluorescent pink and green, but I think I’ll make another one in bright orange for Halloween.
Instagram Reel
Below is my Instagram Reel showing the cute black cat cell phone case I worked on using the chart in the book.
The nice thing about the charts in the book is you can use them for other styles of crochet. For example, you could do a corner-to-corner blanket using the charts. You could also use Tunisian crochet, which decades ago was the primary way crocheters made “picture afghans.” Maybe you’ll choose bobble stitches instead.
These days, and in my own cell case, I used the back-loop-only single crochet method, found in most tapestry crochet instructions these days. I also crocheted “over” the other color yarn to help give the case a bit of structure.
In the below videos, you’ll see that I reviewed five of the newer books from the publishing company of David & Charles. This book was included in there as one of my favorites!

Photos from the Book
Honestly, you can get a flavor of the book just from the front cover! There are a ton of designs for practically every occasion and interest. Plus near the last 1/3 of the book, there are some beautiful hat, scarf, and cardigan patterns incorporating some of the designs, which you can see in the video.
I highly encourage you to check out the book and either purchase it or put it on your gift registry for Christmas! Enjoy, Donna Wolfe from Naztazia
