The arrow stitch crochet pattern is a nice textured stitch. The ripple chevron look is perfect for a blanket, scarf, shawl, hat, and more.
Textured Crochet Pattern
This particular stitch is a vintage one. Crochet books from the 1940s carry variations of this pattern.
This sample version is something I like to make especially when you are looking for a ripple or chevron texture. For the most part, the gray section contains double crochet stitches. And the colorful section is made using both treble crochet (TR) stitches and treble crochet two together (TR2TOG) stitches.
As always if you need assistance on the basics of crochet, please see my beginner crochet videos.
Ripples and Chevrons
The front side looks like little ripples or chevrons. The pattern also reminds me of rick rack trim. You can use one solid color throughout, or alternate between two or more colors. As you can see, I used many bright and happy colors!
The opposite side of this pattern looks like double crochet stripes. The texture shows up only on the one side. Because of this, you can always tell which is the front versus which is the back of the work!
Crochet Pattern Yarn and More
As always I’m using scrap ends of Red Heart Super Saver for this sample. You can use any yarn you wish. Feel free to use cotton, wool, or acrylic. Choose a DK weight yarn, a worsted weight, or a bulky weight. If you are unsure about the hook size, look on the yarn label. Somewhere on there you will find the recommended crochet hook.
If you are unfamiliar with converting a stitch pattern into a blanket pattern, I have both a lengthy written tutorial and corresponding video to go with it. Check out my post, “How to Make a Blanket from a Stitch Pattern.”
