How to Crochet a Bullion Stitch Flower
You can make a bullion stitch flower with this crochet tutorial pattern and video. This attaches nicely to a hat, scarf, shawl, bag, and more.
Vintage Stitch
The bullion stitch is a vintage stitch. You’ll see it in many books and magazines going back decades. I’ve seen it called the roll stitch, the rolled stitch, the coil stitch, the coiled stitch, and more. It’s a fun curly q looking stitch. However, if you’ve ever tried to actually make this stitch, you might find it isn’t as easy as it looks… if you use just ONE crochet hook.
Back in the 1980s, my Gram taught me how to make the stitch using 2 crochet hooks. She taped the two of them together in the middle, and voila! It was so much easier to crochet!
What Hooks to Use
For the main part of this flower, I’m using a size G hook. Depending upon the manufacturer, that could equate to a 4 mm or 4.25 mm hook. For the bullion part, I’m attaching a size D 3.25 mm crochet hook. If you do not have a D size hook, feel free to use another one you might have around. All that will happen is the stitch will become either a smidge wider or a smidge thinner. Preferably try to find one smaller than the main size G hook if possible.
