How to Crochet a Carnation Flower for a Bouquet
This crochet carnation flower looks wonderful in a bouquet, and it works up fast and easy. Make a dozen for someone special in your life! These work great for a wedding bouquet as well as a prom bouquet. Plus even one looks nice in a vase!
Crochet Bouquet
I love real flowers. But if I can’t have real flowers, I love crochet flowers. One of the nice things about handmade flowers such as these is they last forever (almost anyway).
They look great in a vase. They are also a wonderful gift for a wedding. Can you imagine placing a crochet flower or two – or a dozen – in a bridal bouquet? Or even have them on as decorations on the table. Something borrowed? Something blue?
How to Make
These are probably one of the easiest 3D flower to make. You will need to know how to crochet a chain, single crochet, and a double crochet. The pattern is super simple to remember too (mostly 2 double crochet stitches in each stitch around).
I’m using DK weight yarn and a size G hook for my sample. Feel free to use standard worsted weight yarn (medium weight) if that’s all you have on hand. The worsted weight yarn is just going to make the flower a bit larger than my 4″ wide by 3.75″ high sample carnation.
You will need a small amount of floral tape and floral wire. You can also use any kind of wire that has a bit of stiffness to it to serve as the stem of the flower. These work up really quick, so if you do have to make a dozen, you can get them done easily in less than a day’s work.
