How to Crochet a Kitchen Towel with a Topper
Crochet a kitchen towel with topper with this pattern and tutorial video. It works up fast and easy and makes a great gift!
About this Pattern
This crochet towel has a lovely texture primarily due to alternating front post and back post double crochet stitches. It looks like the basket weave stitch, but it’s not quite that. Nor is it the waffle stitch. It’s something in between both I think!
Also, the red and green section on the bottom have alternating double crochet and single crochet stitches, which add yet another level of texture to the pattern.
The towel is started from the bottom and worked upwards. The topper part is integrated right into the towel and is created by a decreasing-stitch technique.
Also, I show an alternative to making three chains before the start of double crochet rows. This little tip produces a nice double-crochet-looking stitch and keeps the edges nice and clean.
Supplies
For one towel, I am using about 180 yards of worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. My personal preference is Sugar n Cream yarn for this, since that yarn launders well and holds up nicely through the years. I used 120 yards, practically the entire skein, of the Sugar n Cream color Jute (the beige part of the towel). With the remaining 60 yards, it was divided among the red and green color.
The button I chose is a wooden button that’s about an inch and a quarter in diameter. Feel free to use whatever size fits through the chain-2 buttonhole that you create in the towel topper section.
