How to Crochet a Large Shell Stitch Pattern
This crochet large shell stitch pattern is beautiful for a blanket, shawl, scarf, and more. It works up fast and easy too.
Large Shell Stitch Pattern
This stitch pattern is comprised of chains, single crochet stitches, and double crochet stitches. It is a four-row pattern. The shell stitches are made with two rows of double crochet stitches. The first row contains a series of double crochet stitches, while the second row contains the same stitches with chains in between.
I’ve used this stitch pattern for several blankets. I’ve also used this for clothing accessory items too, such as a scarf and shawl. I can also see this used as a main stitch for a lovely cardigan!
Yarn and Hook Information
For this sample I’m using worsted weight yarn from my stash along with a size G 4 mm crochet hook. Because I crochet loosely, I find a smaller hook works best for me. Feel free to use a size H 5 mm or larger hook if you crochet a bit on the tighter side.
Also, I change colors every two rows with this pattern. However, feel free to change color more frequently or less frequently. This pattern also looks great in a solid color.
As always, this is a stitch pattern. Stitch patterns can use any yarn and corresponding hook. If you want to use a lighter yarn with this pattern, look on the yarn label for the suggested hook size and start with that one. If the stitches look too loose or too tight, adjust your hook size up or down.
Blanket Tutorial
As mentioned before, this is a stitch pattern that can be used for clothing, accessories, home décor items, as well as blankets. If you need help converting a stitch pattern into a blanket, check out my How to Make a Blanket from a Stitch Pattern HERE!
