How to Crochet the Mini Check Plaid Stitch Pattern

In this tutorial from Naztazia, learn how to create the Mini Check Plaid stitch. My grandmother always made stitch-sampler blankets back in the early 80s, filled with unique squares. Now you know where I get the inspiration for so many of the crochet stitches you see here on my website! I’ve always had a fondness for this particular mini check plaid because it reminds me of a modified granny stitch.

Technique Profile: Managing Your Yarn Colors
The beauty of the Mini Check Plaid is how the blocks of color interact. Since each row uses a different color, you might expect a lot of finishing work. However, the “Donna Logic” secret here is that you can carry the yarn up the sides of the work. This method allows you to rotate through your three colors without cutting the yarn every time, meaning you only have to weave in a few ends instead of dozens. It’s a simple, efficient way to get a complex look!
