How to Crochet a Coffee Mug Cozy with an Attached Coaster
This crochet mug cozy is a quick and easy gift to make. With the attached coaster on the bottom, it can be made with any type of yarn!
About the Crochet Mug Cozy
I have a confession to make. I don’t drink coffee. At all. I took a sip once when I was a teenager and decided it wasn’t for me. So I had my husband, who is a coffee expert, help me out with the design of this pattern.
He noted that a lot of people hold their mug both on the sides, as well as support the mug from the bottom. When I heat up chicken broth for my daughter in these mugs, I noticed the same hand positions. So I thought it was important to keep the heat from the mug away from delicate skin by covering the sides as well as the bottom. And this is what I came up with!
I’m using worsted weight yarn and a size H 5 mm crochet hook. I’m sure there are plenty of ideas as to which fiber type is best for this. Acrylic is good because it is super easy to wash and dry, plus it doesn’t stain. Cotton is good because it’s easy to wash and feels nicer on the hands. Plus it’s always been the choice for hot pads and other kitchen items. Wool is good because it has natural heat-resistant properties. I’ve made these in every type of fiber, including blends, and they all seem to work out nicely.
As always I have a step-by-step video tutorial to help you with this pattern. Enjoy! Donna Wolfe from Naztazia.
