This wrap works nicely when you want something around your shoulders to keep warm or for comfort. This particular pattern is designed for all levels of crochet – beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Plus there is a step-by-step tutorial video to assist you with the pattern.

Materials Needed

With my sample, I used Red Heart Super Saver for my wrap. This is a worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn.

Feel free to substitute with any other fiber or weight of yarn. All you will need to do is adjust your hook for the gauge and/or measurement.

I’m using a size K crochet hook, which is 6.5 mm. The reason for this is you want to make this pocket shawl with crochet nice and cozy looking. Plus it will drape nicely for you.

You can achieve this by making your stitches larger. This is accomplished by using a crochet hook larger than the recommended size for that yarn.

Construction Details

With this particular crochet pocket shawl, you will start by making a large scarf. You’ll continue back and forth for about 100+ rows. Once completed, you’ll fold up the two sides to create pockets. Finally, you will crochet along both of the long edges to create a finished look. Plus this will help hold the pockets in place.

Technically there is no sewing of seams or pockets involved in this garment. If you want, you can add a button to each pocket too. Some like to add fringe to the bottom as well.

Crochet Stitches

Crochet stitches used in this pattern include the chain, half double crochet, and double crochet. If you need help with the basics of crochet, please see my beginner crochet videos.

The most important part is to figure out how long to make this, especially if it’s for someone else. Ideally, I like to use the person’s height to calculate the finished length. However, that’s not always feasible. Therefore, I rely on this information for the average female height in the US. If you are making this for a man, use these calculations for the average male height in the US. You can also use this average human height by country, which combines male and female height for worldwide calculations.
