How to Crochet a 3D Rose Bud Stitch Pattern
This crochet 3D rose bud stitch pattern is cute for the edging of handmade items. It works up fast and easy!
How To Do This Stitch Pattern
You would be surprised how easy it is to do this stitch pattern, if you already know basic crochet stitches.
To start, there is a background of single crochet stitches. Anything you see in light gray in the sample consists of single crochet stitches. The green row consists of a strand of yarn held together with the light gray yarn to form the leaves. The pink row contains a pink strand of yarn simultaneously held together with the gray yarn.
As you can see from the tutorial video, carrying these yarn strands along these two rows allows you to easily switch colors back and forth. The leaves consist of chains, slip stitches, and single crochet stitches. Each flower portion is made from a 5-double crochet popcorn stitch.
If I was to pick out a tricky part of this pattern, I would say it was the color changes. It’s important to remember to do your color changes on the very last pull-through of yarn from the previous stitch. So you have to anticipate where you plan on making color changes, then remember to change the color on the stitch before. My video shows how to do this quite easily.
Yarn and Hook
I’m using scrap yarn from previous projects for my sample. It’s a worsted weight yarn so I chose a G 4 mm crochet hook. Feel free to use other size hooks if you wish. And this pattern lends itself nicely to working with other yarn weights, so don’t feel confined to using just worsted weight yarn!
It’s up to you on the color choices. For my sample I chose a lighter gray background combined with a bright pink and purple yarn for the flowers. Plus I used a medium Kelly green yarn for the leaves.
However, I think choosing a darker background would also look very nice. Something like a deep turquoise would work nicely. Then you can use lighter flower colors like pastels or whites along with a lighter color green for the stem and leaves.
In any event, I hope you enjoy this flower stitch pattern!
