How to Line a Bag the Easy Way
And check out the super easy and inexpensive way of lining the Lunaria Round Bag using flexible vegetable cutting mats from the dollar store. Yes, it’s that easy to do!
What Does Lunaria Mean?
You might be wondering where the name came from. Lunaria is the scientific name for the silver dollar plants that my Mom had around the house. This purse reminded me of them!

Supplies
- Yarn.
I am using 2 skeins (600 yards total) of Caron Cotton Cakes (big cake) in the color Silver Cloud. It’s a part acrylic and part cotton yarn. I’m also holding 2 strands of yarn together throughout. This makes the bag sturdy and gives the purse more stability.
- Crochet hook.
The Caron Cotton Cakes is a bit of a lighter worsted weight yarn. So when I hold two strands of yarn together, I’m able to easily use a size H 5 mm crochet hook. It is possible if you are substituting with another yarn that you need to go up a hook size. This shouldn’t affect the bag other than it might come out a bit larger.
- Button.
I’m using a 1.5 inch button. You can use any size you wish. Sometimes when I can’t find a color I like, I use a light wooden one. Then I paint it with acrylic paint and seal it with a water poof topcoat.
- Scissors, yarn needle.
These are always needed for fastening off and weaving in ends.
- Flexible Cutting Mats.
Flexible cutting mats are a wonderful type of plastic that you can use to line your handbags with so they keep a nice shape. I got mine at the local dollar store. However I have an Amazon link below if you don’t have one of those stores.
Technically, since the cutting mats they are designed to be washed, they make for a wonderful easy wipe-down type of interior for a handbag. Not that anything EVER explodes in my purse. - Hole Punch.
I like to use a smaller 1/16 inch one to be able to punch tiny holes for sewing the flexible cutting mats to the handbag. Granted, you can also just hot glue the mats to the handbag and do away with the entire sewing part.
